7 Days Uganda Safaris and Gorillas in rwanda

Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth (Enroute Safari Attractions)

You will start your journey early in the morning after break fast to head to the western direction. Have a stop over at the equator and Mpabirwe drum makers and do some shopping. Proceed to Mbarara to have lunch and then continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park following the mystical Rwenzori Mountain range for much of the journey.

As you get into the park you will be able to see the escapements of Rwenzori Mountain Crater Lakes, rift valley and see some animals on the road side.  Enjoy evening game drives within the park and see animals like tree climbing lions, lions, elephants, buffaloes, Kob, bushbucks, waterbucks, warthogs, leopard among other animals. Dine at Katara Lodge/ Mweya Safari lodge/or institute of ecology with a view of Kazinga channel and Lake Edward peninsular.

Day 2: Guided Chimp Walks

Up relatively early, you will have breakfast to report to the ranger station in Queen Elizabeth National Park at 08.00am. You will reach the station to be briefed about tracking, the forest walks and how to behave while with the great apes. Your guided walk in search of the chimps and other primates, may last several hours.
Then take a cultural trip to Katunguru trading centre where there are different ethnic groups with closely related languages for culture performances. You will be taken back to Mweya lodge for refreshments and lunch.
After lunch, you will take a Nature walk in Maramagambo forest. There are great surprises a waiting for you in the extensive Maramaganbo forest. While on the guided forest nature walks, you will visit the bat cave. There are other trails which will lead you to crater lakes and the blue River which is near the bat caves. You may as well see other primate like chimps, elephants and birds. Return to your accommodation for dinner and over night Katara Lodge/ Mweya Safari lodge/or institute of ecology.

Day 3: Morning Game Drives
 
For you to catch up the early risers game drives will start at 6:30 when the predators are returning to their hideout. You may see elephants, lions, spotted hyenas, leopards and hippos grazing. After game drives have late break fast at your lodge.

After lunch, enjoy the unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward. This trip passes through possibly the highest concentration of Hippos and many animals may be seen drinking at the water's edge. This launch cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing, ideal for the Uganda safari.
Return to your accommodation for dinner and over night Katara Lodge/ Mweya Safari lodge/or institute of ecology.

Day 4: Queen Elizabeth – Lake Bunyonyi

In the morning, drive to the Lake Bunyonyi. Lake Bunyonyi is the 2nd deepest lava dammed lake in East and central Africa with over 25 scenic Islands.
Optional activities:
Bird watching - Lake Bunyonyi is a great place to see colonies of weavers as well as bigger birds such as herons, egrets, the grey crowned crane and the crested crane.
Island Hopping - Learn the history of the islands as you paddle or motor to visit them. Bwama Island was formerly the location of a leper colony, while unmarried pregnant girls were abandoned on Akampeine Island (Punishment Island) to either starve to death or be rescued by single men from neighboring villages.
Visiting the Batwa - The UK based Forest People’s Project, a charity that works to protect the rights of the Batwa people, can arrange for you a trip to the local Batwa village. Tour operators can also arrange these visits.
Shopping - For local produce including mud fish (for the brave) can be found at the Rutinda Market on Mondays and Fridays. The Kyevu Market can be visited on Wednesdays and Fridays when pygmies are selling their wares.
Dinner and overnight at Habuharo Island Camp /Arcadia Cottages/ Bushara Island Camp

Day 5: Lake Bunyonyi - Rwanda

Morning Boat ride on scenic Lake Bunyonyi thereafter proceed to Rwanda via Kigali to Ruhengeri dinner and overnight at Gorilla Nest Hotel or Kinigi Guest House.

Day 6 Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda

An early breakfast after which you proceed to the park offices for briefing. Set off for the trekking into the rain tropical forest covering the hills surrounding Virunga Volcanoes. Make sure you carry with you packed lunch and water. Depending on the time you will spend while trekking you may decide to take another activity. Transfer to your lodge for dinner and over night Gorilla Nest Hotel or Kinigi Guest House.

Day 7: Kigali – Kanombe Airport
 
Drive to Kigali, Visit genocide sites and other cultural Kigali highlights and then after you will be transferred to Kanombe airport for your next flight back home.
